Terrifying moment for a parent, but he got the W with 4ip, 2ER, and no actually hard hit balls. Coolest moment as a parent was striking out a kid that's one of the clear top hitters in the league. Threw a changeup that the kid swung over, it wasn't a pitch anyone knew he could throw - including me, our coach, and the batter.

Even the typically dirt places on the mound and between the bases are dirt and he caught his cleat in the turf going into 3rd. the score after the descriptor seems correct to me. Down 0-5 because 0 is less than 5. That said, they were considered the home team so down 5-0 maybe indicates they batted second. I was told he was previously 0-2 batting in varsity games this season. Teutopolis has now scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th in the Sectional final to advance and 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th in the Super-Sectional to go to state.

But that person will either do it or the kid will stop being able to play sports altogether*

Some clubs are so hell bent on winning a 11u soccer game that they'll cheat any way possible. Last fall - played a team early in season and won something like 7-1. Late season rematch at their field and basically a whole different group of kids show up. Conveniently no ref is there to check the game card. I normally just work center ref, but their coach doesnt want anything to do with that for this game. Sunday - our club is winning at halftime, 5 new kids mysteriously show up at halftime for the other team. These 5 completely change the flow of the game and the other team wins. This is apparently a very common thing for this club. Previous Message the kids as they age. Coaches get essentially baseball card style registrations for each player. Which you put in a binder or in my case a ziplock bag and take to games.

Now they wouldn’t get nearly this level of turnout in 2025, but it was the city-wide summer league with 8-10 and 11-12 year old leagues. I want to say there were 30 teams in the former and 24 in the latter. All teams named and sponsored by various local establishments, no pro team names or anything like that. And when entering each level there was a day of tryouts and then a draft. You’d find out which team you got on, and then call all your friends to find out who they ended up with. And then it would alternate weeks of M-W-F games and Tu-Thu games, with 1 practice in the 3 game weeks and 2 practices in the 2 game weeks. It was a commitment without being overwhelming, you played all your games within a 20 minute drive radius, and were playing with and against all your friends and kids you knew from the school or neighborhood. Setting aside the ridiculousness of an 8U team in the first place, the fact that the tournament people didn't even consider the fact that 8 PM might be too late for 7 year olds is nonsense. We got the 5 seed bc of a tough pool play draw. We won all 3 games to get to the finals where we were gased with no pitching left. A championship bracket in any tournament should have no more than 8 teams. 6 games in 34 hours in wild stuff, especially when you get the 5:30 and 7:45 pm pool games then need to turn around for the 8 am bracket game. Previous Message OPRF is the 4 seed in the Reavis sectional and plays Jones Prep tomorrow, then hopefully the winner of Reavis/St. Ignatius on Saturday for the Regional Championship. Much like the NCAA tournament, I both love and hate the IHSA post-season. OPRF won a conference championship and I hate the idea that anyone would think their season is a disappointment if they lost early. No one is expecting them to take out state #1 Brother Rice in the sectional semifinals, but man I'd love them to get the chance. I'd take OPRF's first four hitters over any top four in the state.

There's a travel organization around here well known for meathead-y and douchey behavior. My kid is a b team player, so we've played in B team tournaments and it's great to play similar competition. We made it to the bracket championship and our opponent swapped in 4 kids from the A team to play just for the championship game. Didn't just add them, straight up didn't play 4 kids that had played in every other game. The best part is that we walked it off when one of their A team kids walked in the winning run against our bottom hitter. Previous Message The money grabs of these tournaments are insane. Supposedly Mounds (Meridian) made the IHSA 1A Super-Sectional basketball game with a sophomore who was 19 and when they lost his HS athletic eligibility was done due to age.
