It's a shitshow after 10 AM if you don't-literally fear inducing once all the yahoos recover from their hangovers from the night before and start blasting up and down the lake in their 50 foot go fast boats if you're in an average sized runabout, much less a fishing boat or ski boat.

I've taken my ski boat down there once. And we didn't take it out more than a couple of times because the water was too rough 80% of the time.

It's fine. Silver Dollar City is surprisingly nice. We stayed on the lake a little bit outside of the town. But otherwise, it's basically Pigeon Forge. The hiking was fine. I'm guessing the boating can be good during the summer. I think I'd only consider going back for Silver Dollar City. It was a gem, IMO.

The Thursday right before Memorial Day weekend we passed through GSMNP on the way to visiting friends in South Carolina. Came in the Townsend entrance and left out at Cherokee, NC. Was really surprised at the lack of mid-day traffic just a day before the holiday weekend.

Of course being in the south, people were still packed in there, but I can't imagine it was as crowded as usual... And traffic was awful even so.

The mountains were amazing. The national Park was amazing.

Even on our recent little drive-thru (which is not how I national park) we saw a black bear and an elk* and stopped to take in some wonderful views.

*First time I had ever seen a wild elk east of the Mississippi.
