Am I making a grave mistake in planning a mid-October trip to Banff/Canmore, AB?

Trying to do a non-hot weather trip for mini's fall break. Would like to do a four night trip to include the Royal Tyrell Museum, which is out of the way, I know. But dinosaurs.

Also, if you have any tips for a four day trip there outside of ski and summer season, please to provide. Would like to do a few hikes and enjoy the mountains. Nothing too rigorous, but still outdoorsy.

It snowed about an inch in Banff on the last day. Wasn't a problem getting around town but I'm not sure how things were out on the trails. Had been around 70 for two days immediately before.

I've also been there in mid-June when snow from the previous winter was still around gumming up hiking paths.

If you're comfortable with snow being a small (and possibly large) aspect of the trip then go. It's amazing. But it'll be luck of the draw how bad it is when you get there.

Moraine lake road could close by then which would be a major negative to me. But I’m not sure what your dates are. Moraine Lake cannot be missed.

I would assume you can still get up to lake Agnes since that’s just off lake Louise. We did Parker ridge up near athabasca glacier which I thought was a great short hike. The other short hike we did was to bow glacier falls which was fine but nothing I’d hike to again.

Banff and Canmore will have plenty open still.
