I’ll never pretend to be one of these QB school film gurus, but these guys uploaded the All 22 of all this throws. And seeing just the individual plays absent all the negative context of all the other shit going on in the game makes it look pretty cut and dry to me.

This was a really good game by him, the best I’ve seen and better than I thought it was in the moment. Save the inexplicable overthrow on the INT (which was effectively a punt) the first half doesn’t have a bad play in it.

going through mitch, then justin, now caleb has us so locked into the THINGS TO LOOK FOR that it almost hurts the enjoyment of games. i remember a preseason missed pass to rome that generated so much debate over whether it was good or bad that it was silly.

i suppose it’s all part of being a Bear fan now because we’re so quarterback starved, but feeling the need to pass judgment from snap to snap really can take the fun out of things. and the bears do enough of that on their own.

this isn’t a criticism of you or your post or anything, just an observation. I’m sure all-22 being available and the volume of qb “gurus” has really accelerated things.

And there have been plenty of games with real bad tape for Caleb and you don’t need to be a QB expert to see it. But I’d be shocked if anyone who is qualified in this area would suggest that this was a bad tape for him.

It seems like he can’t win. If his quick first read is open and he hits him, he should have waited for something bigger to open up. If he waits too long for something bigger to open up, he should have been more decisive in hitting the open guy.

I think at least half of those he could have done something better. To some extent that is probably true of all QBs, but there is definitely room for improvement.

Way too many short passes to a guy with someone draped on top of him, missing wide open guys, passes behind the receiver or low or too far, a couple holding onto the ball too long, and the interception was not good...

Saw a bunch of lazy national takeaways about yesterday proving that Caleb was ass, I thought he played quite well overall - particularly before they were chasing 3-4 TD deficits.

Byard, Stevenson, and McCloud received ass-level ratings, which tracked the eye test. They had Sewell as the top-rated defender--I had thought he had a nice game. Sweat and Brisker as the top-rated defensive starters? I don't know. Though I guess I didn't recall Brisker getting toasted like every other DB other than Jaylon Johnson.

On offense, Rome, Jonah Jackson, and Caleb were the only starters in green. Their graders seem pretty friendly to Caleb this season. And Jackson got roasted a couple times but he certainly was not unique in that respect. Loveland and Braxton the bottom-rated starters. Not sure how you rate someone who is invisible.

It sure seems like the franchise, at its highest echelon, is focused exclusively on building a stadium right now. I can’t explain Poles’ extension any other way.

Hopefully they part with Warren and Poles and everyone else in football ops once the stadium is built.

He’s had competent professional caliber coaching for two actual games. And the shitshow he had last year was historically bad.

He’s yet to play behind an even average OL.

The OL problems may not go away, but let’s give him a little more time with Johnson before we write him off and go with the Great White Hope (who would be worse, FWIW).

It’s not like any of the other QBs from last years class would be any better had they been drafted by the Bears.

I’m just as sick of this crap as you guys. It’s nauseating. Exhausting. But the markers are there. Just like with Mitch. And Fields. And Rex. And Cade. He doesn’t have it between the ears. His decision-making is slow. Sometimes it’s a beat slow. Sometimes he simply freezes and won’t pull the trigger. In the aggregate, it often leads to bad throws like the one he threw to Kerby. Which leads to a lack of confidence. And without confidence, you can’t develop the poise necessary to be an elite NFL QB.

I agree the Bears’ organizational dysfunction is a part of it. And that’s regrettable. But it ends in the same outcome.

I don't know what you mean by lack of on field leadership. If you mean from Ben what would you like to see from him? If you mean from players...I'm not sure how that's Ben's fault. IMO that falls on Poles and his draftinf/FA signing

As for the rookies...I would like to see them get Loveland involved, but I still put most of it on Poles and his drafting. Burden has gotten in on kickoff returns but we had/have plenty of WRs when they took him.

So in that spirit, that was a pretty encouraging first quarter. The team itself is going nowehere, defense just isn’t good enough outside of a couple players.
