US Practice Groups today

Bryson/Griffin/Thomas/Young
English/Henley/Scheffler/Spaun
Burns/Cantlay/Morikawa/Schauffele

Interesting possibilities here.

Scheffler and English play the same ball, so I would not be surprised to see them together in foursomes.

Also, they've never played together in this format, but a Bryson/Thomas team would be electric.

I would assume Xander and Cantlay play together again. They've had a lot of success historically.

Phil Mickelson thinks bringing in Lou Holtz to coach the next team is the solution*

But putting is ALWAYS an advantage to the euros it seems. Why not make this super long and grow the rough up?there’s basically been no penalty for missing fairways. Truly mind boggling stuff

Yes they played bad, but it’s INSANE to play that much better as a team in that afternoon session and lose the session. That should never ever happen. The euros maximize pairings to the absolute end. Squeezing a win out of a session where you play your worst four players - and those 4 players play bad! - is so damn impressive

The entire us apparatus needs to be thrown out. Put in a permanent leadership group and get this feels based captaincy and ‘be yourself’ independence the fuck away. Make a team.

Scottie hasn't been great, but he's playing by himself. Henley's been bad.

And the Euros are all playing well. Fitzpatrick's been particularly good in that pairing (and Aberg's been his usual self).

No one on the US side is playing great, really. And most of the Euros are. Need Xander and Cantlay to keep it up and it would be great if Bryson/JT could find some momentum. But JT's been poor. Not surprisingly.

I get that following the analytics would theoretically control for the wide variance that exists in golf to the greatest degree possible. But to act like this is a crazy decision because of analytics saying they are 2/3 of a stroke worse in a sport with the randomness that golf has (especially in a event like this) feels a bit much.

Also my consternation comes a lot from 20 years of the us seemingly picking teams out of a hat while the euros have Eduardo molinari diligently making all the best pairings possible. And that’s led to good results for them

Morikawa scares me generally, but it's probably his putting more than anything.
