Going to wait until Black Friday deals. Going 83” OLED or 98” non-OLED.

So, not including the cost of the new room for the back of the house, this 136 inch TV $32k+

OLED's best feature is great contrast and black levels

Haven't really kept up on recent reviews

jdl, do you think the tipping point for OLED brightness is “must be dark” or

They are still fine, just better when it's darker
Posted by jdl
|
They’re not incapable of being in a room with light. Just won’t get as bright as LED *

gotcha. I’m gonna try my new OLED in the lighter room

This is helpful. That feels like it may not be worth the additional costs.

It looks like the Bravia 98 mini LED is $4500 and so is the 98 TCL mini LED
Posted by meanjeans TCL also has a less premium mini LED model that is like $2500
|
What’s the benefit of these over other non-OLEDs sub $2K?*
Posted by Carl Spackler
|
Sub $2K TVs are going to be traditional side-lit LEDs, maybe with local dimming.

Don't forget the audio component

I put a 98” TCL in my living room. ~15 feet viewing distance to couch, plus you can see it from the

I just put an 85" Samsung 4k in the conference room at work. It was less than $1000.

Get a transparent OLED. A 77" LG is listed for $59K. Probably go down for Black Friday.

Definitely wait for Black Friday sales. I’ve been very happy with my OLED TVs (Sony and LG)

We just bought an LG C5 OLED, which I think is the midrange. The 83” is down to

Have you considered a projector rather than a TV?
Posted by IlliniSax05 MAJOR UPDATE: "Maybe you're not such a bad egg, Lisle-y"
|
Have not. We don’t have a great place to put the projector.
Posted by Carl Spackler

The newest projectors are UST - ultra short throw

That’s what I have, but I figure with 3 little kids it’s probably not a great idea

Which one did you get?

I got an Epson LS800 back in March

Fair enough. Unfortunately I can be of no help to you in your quest

if i can add on/ask...what is your viewing distance for that? we have a new room i need to outfit
Posted by lcubed

About 15 feet*
Posted by Carl Spackler
|
For 75 inches, 8-9 feet is good. That's how far my tv is.*
Posted by bucktownillini
|
Yeah I always follow the "tv size that's half the viewing distance" rule

I had an idea. What if he got a smaller screen and sat closer?*
