Perhaps I'm wrong and Cory was a 4 star. His recruitment came in the infancy stages of internet recruiting, so I doubt there's much out there to prove either way. But I'm almost positive Cory was just a 3 star.

Luther was the same way, although I'm about 99% sure he was just a 3 star...and we all know how good he got!

Going from top 1000 level to leading the Big Ten in rebounding is pretty remarkable.

Giorgi was another guy at that level who was able to come right in and make an impact as a freshman.

Or more accurately, as high of a % of highly contested 3’s. That dude made a bunch of truly absurd shots, if he could have stayed healthy and kept things together off the court he could have put up a shitload of points over a 4 year career.

And he was a true deep cut 3 star recruit, Wagler was at least top 150 but Jamar Smith was completely off the radar when we offered him.

He was downright awesome. Even though he was just a skinny guard, he dominated the entire game and made his opponents look dumb even though the opposing team was pretty good in their own right. Jamar was just so good and surprisingly athletic from what I had remembered him to be at Illinois.

If I recall, he had a sip of coffee for the Boston Celtics. Unless I have that completely incorrect. Pretty sure he saw a couple mins in a league before being cut.

He did end up as a serviceable rotation guy as an upperclassman, but I never understood how any guru could have watched a 6-4 guy who couldn’t dribble or shoot and decide that he was a top 50 recruit.

Played against UTHS in the Thanksgiving tournament where they beat us at the buzzer. First time in forever we hadn’t won that tournament. Then watched him on TV when his team ended up 2nd in state. Don’t remember if he was highly rated.
