My understanding is that the Maester Aemon from GoT is Egg’s older brother.

And the grandson of Egg is the mad king. But in the one mad king vision from GoT, my recollection is that the Mad King himself was quite old before he gets killed.

If this is all accurate, is Aemon supposed to be like 130 years old when he finally croaks up at The Wall? The equivalent of his grandson was also an old man several years earlier based on how the Mad King was presented in the series.

When something is happening, young people like to say it’s “lit.”

Aemon was born in ~198 (or 202) and died in 302.

Aegon V (Egg) was 2 years younger.

Egg ruled 233-259

Egg's 2nd son Jaehaerys II was born in 225 and ruled 259-262.

Jaehaerys II's son Aerys II (Mad King) was born 244 and ruled 262-283, so he was only supposed to be 39 when he died. The show made him a lot older.

Mad King is Egg’s son in the TV show and depicted older. In books he is the grandson and only lived until his late 30’s. Aemon was close to 100 when he died. Of course it is literary fiction so the times get screwed up occasionally.

When episode 5 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms aired this week, In the Name of the Mother, it hit with a perfect 10/10 score before dropping to a 9.8/10 on IMDB, tying it with two other Game of Thrones episodes and below just one 9.9 to be one of the best-ever airings from the series. And by default, that ties it with dozens of other episodes as the third-highest possible score on all of IMDB.

Even if you hadn't read the books the first few episodes had clues... his nickname, the way he shied away from the Targaryens when they arrived so as not to be seen, and his brother at the play, the fact that he wanted his brother to die in the joust, etc.

The show looks better too than GOT or HOD. Actual white armor for the kingsguard

I enjoyed how they show Dunk’s inner monologue from the novella with the quick cut flashbacks.

That said I assume much like GOT and HOD once they the showrunner decides (or is forced to) to start leaving GRRM’s written work it drop significantly in quality. Although supposedly GRRM gave 12 unpublished novellas to Parker.

Sadly I assume we’ll never Winds.

Maybe it's got a narrow appeal, but it works for me.

The show is a vibe. I don't know how to describe it, and superficial comparisons - like Euphoria mixed with Succession - don't really capture what's going on.

The thing that really caught my attention, beyond Marisa Abela's hotness, was Rishi's background chatter on the trade floor. That level of vulgarity delivered with a British accent was just made for me. The show also burns through plot quickly and makes big changes from season to season, so it's not boring. There are a couple of big trading scenes in first 2 seasons that are really exciting, as strange as that sounds. Or maybe I just drink too much HBO Kool aid.

I thought the pacing was better this episode. Literal lol during the scene where dunk & egg were talking before the tug of war.

I hope the rest of the tournament scenes are that intense.
