A lot of these kids fresh out of college are not shy about making demands.

In my first couple years, I was terrified of my managers. I wouldn’t leave until they did or would at least check with them before leaving. Whatever I was told I was working on is what I worked on. If something was going to be late if I didn’t get it done that day, I would just assume it had to get done.

Nowadays some of these kids come in as 23 years with no experience and think they are running the show. Saying they don’t want to work on certain things because it doesn’t interest them, asking for a new manager if they don’t like the one they have, leaving right at 5:00 while their manager stays on late to get things done, abusing the unlimited PTO policy to the point where it had to get refined.

Maybe their way is how it should be and they’ve actually got it all figured out more than we did, but there are so many times where I see something from the youngsters and think “god damn, there’s not a chance in hell I’d have had the balls to do that / ask for that at their age.”

When something is happening, young people like to say it’s “lit.”

...and were passed over dozens if not hundreds of times. They can't ever hope to own a home unless they decide to move to a 2nd tier city or have a family member that can help them out. They've seen older friends and colleagues get laid off time and time again. Huge salaries and stock options are gone for all but the most competitive of jobs.

They have less faith in "the american dream" and less faith in their employers because most of their formative years have been watching that dream become less attainable and watching their prospective employers fuck everything up then get a bailout.

So, they're less likely to break their ass for someone whom they have 2-way, bilateral trust issues to start with.

Basically FUCK THE MAN before he fucks you.
