Previous Message Previous Message I always thought it was "began to pray," but it's "pretend to pray." In my defense, the actual version lacks verb tense agreement. I also thought it was "the preacher locked the door" instead of "the preacher like the cold." Again, my version makes more sense grammatically.

because "he knows I'm gonna stay," so the door doesn't need to be open
