The Brewers are just doubling if not tripling down on their devil magic. It's like they're playing a game to see if they can find the slappiest grindiest players and still win.

Trading their entire 3B depth chart in Durbin, Monasterio, and Seigler to Boston for David Hamilton, Kyle Harrison, and Shane Drohan.

Meanwhile Boston really whiffing on their Bregman replacement options and doesn't seem like Nico or Shaw are going anywhere. Harrison was another Devers piece shipped out.

Lead negotiators are still there.

We'll see if new hire wants different direction or if they just promote someone to keep stability.

The rank and file still run the union. The fight will be more owners vs. owners than owners vs. players imo.

And I'd still take all comers that 27 will not be canceled. There were be much closer to a full season if not a full season than 0 games.

Clark may have gotten out before he was forced out... IDK... just idle speculation.

The players are likely to get clobbered this time around... at least it seems the owners are willing to go as far as necessary to get what they want.

...people can tout all of the lagging indicators they want. If the trends continue with fewer and fewer teams having the financial resources to compete, those owners will continue to hoard cash in lieu of spending since the expense is a worthless exercise.

And... when our generation starts getting old... the next generation will care... how much? Are there kids in Pittsburgh dreaming of playing for the Pirates like there were a generation or 2 ago?

Now imagine the same thing happening in a place like St. Louis, which previously would've been unimaginable.

Over time, interest will erode, despite all the protestations that the game is healthy, revenue is great, competitive balance (because teams rise, and quickly fall, and then somebody else does the same) and all of that.

The TV situation is untenable at this point... I know Manfred envisions an NFL-like situation, but there's no way the big $ teams will go for that, so like you said, it will end up being owner vs. owner... and my guess is we will be without baseball for a while, and the ultimate deal will be unsatisfying for just about everybody.

I thought that at the time and posted that I thought Colorado might be the only ones dumb enough to that much for him.

Clearly was the right decision to move on from all those guys. Made sense at the time but still hurt.

Unfortunately it stinks that Canario and Kilian never panned out. But maybe it should been obvious when we got the worse deal for Bryant too.

Thank god we got PCA for Javy. I was mad mad about Madrigal.*

He wasn’t that good with the Cubs and he had no defensive position. I wanted the Cubs to trade him for years at his peak value. I always thought he and Contreras were both the symbolic players for why the Cubs fell off and their stubbornness under the Theo regime to resist evolution.

Had there been a DH at the time I’d have maybe thought differently.

But credit to him for developing the way he has.
