The "great ass" scene in Heat is actually bad.

You can see him nearly forming another word in his mind before he goes with that. Ad-libbed dialogue is great, but at least have the guy do a clean take.

Also, Heat is mid. A few memorable scenes, but DeNiro and Pacino were already too old to be co-leading a heist flick.

I want to break it up
I want to smash it up
I want to #### it up
I want to watch it come down

I also was pretty meh on Heat, but seems like lots of people think it’s a classic

Occasionally I will be confident a movie is bad even if almost everyone loves it. In this case I figure the problem is on my end, that I was just failing to appreciate it.

If you saw it in 1996 and love it, I get it. The context helps. Those guys were all still huge stars making great movies.

But if you just watched this for the first time last Tuesday, it’s not gonna hold up as a classic.

Agreed. I probably saw it first in like 2002 with people hyping it

And I was pretty meh on it.

Although I don’t know if anything has come close to the hype that De Niro/Pacino had making that movie.
