I can't say Jerry is hurting for bucks. Hard to get an accurate ranking, but he's at least among the top 2/3 of owners according to most speculation on the internet.

Also of note: Jerry is 90 years old as of today (and according to the contract of sale, apparently the earliest he would sell a portion to Ishibia would be 2029; then a five-year gradual ownership change). Justin Ishibia is 48 today.

In the year 2034, Reinsdorf will be 98.

But much of his wealth is probably tied up in owning the Sox and Bulls and not actual cash. He obviously has other real estate ventures.

Likewise Ishbia probably has lots of his wealth tied up in other ventures but dudes buying baseball teams today tend to be in a different stratosphere than the guys that purchased them 40+ years ago.

I would guess that Ishbia has significantly more ability to plop down the cash for this site and build on it than Jerry does.

Made me think: privately-owned MLB stadiums??

- fitting a baseball field there shouldn't be an issue.

- I'm curious what impact the rail yard/lines will have on the project. I assume that at a minimum you'd have to maintain the 9 or so tracks that go through the site as-is. You're going to have to cantelever the structure over a pretty wide span.

- because of the above, the FIELD level will have to be several feet above the adjacent street grade (taking into account the dugouts, and several feet of depth for a concrete floor, drainage system and dirt for a field)... so your concourse level will likely be be ABOVE that... a lot of stadiums like to have the seating bowl sunk at least partially into the ground... if you're wanting to have field level club seating then your concourse level for most of the peons attending games will be a couple of floors above ground. Not a deal breaker but a design challenge.

looking at the half of the island south of division as the northern end already has Mars Food's worldwide HQ.

i'd also lobby hard for a metra stop at ogden and building a bridge for ogden onto the island for another ingress/egress.

put the dome itself roughly centered at the current streets of hickory and bliss, oriented SE/NW with a glass wall facing the skyline.

build your restaurants, hotels, parking structures, tailgating lawn, and park areas around that.

5 minute walk from metra. 10 minute walk from the blue line at chicago. 15 minute walk from the red.

kennedy access at both north and division would be rough. there's a northbound augusta exit you could modify and add a flyover eastbound on augusta to link up with the proposed ogden bridge extension, possibly.
