Starts one year ago in April 2025 and goes back to October 2024.

Active message threads only go back this month.

Where is everything else? If you run a search, you'll get hits on those messages, but can't actually see the threads they're a part of.

A few had the ability to do plugins. Maybe starting with a self-hosted open source version and adding a threading plugin would be a good route.

I asked claude to help. and it created a full mockup and then put the code in place to get started

hits the database to build threads. If it does that for a game thread while a bunch of people are hitting refresh, that's gonna be instant Overlord. Especially on a cheap hosting instance.

You really need to architect it so that the app mostly lives in memory, something like Redis, with eventual consistency to a database. Fetch the top posts for the homepage from DB, fetch everything newer from Redis, build tree, return to renderer.

1/mo for domain name

start basic, build new features as time goes on
but still keep very simple - make all images and videos still be hosted elsewhere, no crazy icons, no huge archive, etc

More than that.
