Windows Laptop Buying Q: I'm clueless about Wintel laptops. Here are the spec requirements for UF

Processor Intel Series 1 or higher (new line; comes after 14th Generation); 125 or better (e.g., 125H, 134L, 288V) OR AMD Ryzen 8000 Series or better, x500 or better (e.g., 8500, 9600)
Memory 32GB RAM
SSD 2 TB
Video Card QHD (2560 x 1440) or 4K (3840 x 2160); NVIDIA GeForce 4050 OR AMD Radeon RX 6600M

All of the machines I'm seeing with these specs are >$2,500. Am I doing something wrong?

I guess the days of going to a computer lab with workstations to do your homework is over.

Almost no engineering schools seem to allow Mac laptops. I think entirely because of Solidworks.

I think most people these days use their own laptops no matter what field they're in. I can't imaging people are using computer labs for ordinary coursework.

than what's recommended. I do see some older cards with 4050, 5050, etc. but I also see stuff that looks like this:
