I think this might be the second best points in miles deal I have ever scored. After four nights at the St Regis in Bora Bora for 300,000 Marriott points.

At one time you could buy/sell frequent flyer miles for apx a penny to a penny and a half.

Transferring or buying miles almost never makes sense *

At one time he bought enough to take about a dozen of us to Vegas (on Southwest, mind you).

Anyways, despite all of his great ideas about when to buy/sell he never got more than 1.5 cents/mile... that's per his wife. :-)) I think he just enjoyed the thrill of the game.

Meanwhile I’m in the stupidest standoff with the Chase Travel portal.

Might I suggest you dont look into the price discrepancy with their hotel bookings either.

I don’t really mind the coupon book method because I can get the value.

It’s deriving value from the points that’s a PITA for me.

As best I can guess, it’s excluding the kids from being offered economy plus because they’d need to give us seat assignments.

Which is dumb because American’s own website doesn’t have this restriction.

found their travel portal challenging and their points don't transfer to DL Skymiles. Moved to Amex about three years ago but kept the Chase accounts to avoid taking the hit to my credit score when we were applying for a mortgage in Atlanta. Haven't used them for years. This is a good reminder to cancel those two accounts asap.

Now that we’re a family of 5, all these CC sites claiming your points are worth 2x their amount seem incredibly disingenuous.

Yes, you can get that value flying first class to Warsaw on LOT or some shit. Or staying at the 4 Seasons Bora Bora, where instead of paying $2K a night you pay $1K in points.

But I just struggle to find value for regular ol’ family travel. Half the hotels on these travel portals seem like they have jacked up rates. And getting value for transfer partners seem like it’s only for first class seats or far flung destinations.

I’m sitting on a mountain of points across CCs because I’m struggling to find good spends to get better than 1:1 value.

Hyatt is the preferred transfer partner for my CSR points.

Though I know all of the blogs are inundated with articles about the upcoming Hyatt changes.

I did find use of my United miles at 2.3 cpp, which i thought was low, but seems like those miles are valued at 1.2-1.3 these days.

i have found alaska (american) and hyatt to be the best value for chase points by far.*
