Walt was a founder/original member (sax, flute and other woodwinds) and started pre-cursors of the band with drummer Danny Seraphine and guitarist Terry Kath. He had a vision of a rock band driven by a horn section and recruited James Pankow (trombone) and Lee Loughnane (trumpet), the only original still performing. He/they then got Peter Cetera and Robert Lamm and the rest was history.

Good guy and great musician. He will be missed.

Does Tiki approve of his usage of “Chicago”?*

Terry Kath died in late 70s from an accidental self inflicted gunshot wound

Bassist/vocalist Peter Cetera left mid 80s and had a very successful solo career

Drummer Danny Seraphine was let go from the band in the 90s and still performs with his own Chicago-style band

Walter Parazaider had left about 10 years ago due to the onset of Alzheimers

Robert Lamm (keyboard, vocals) and James Pankow (trombone, arranger) retired from performing in the last year and are both battling health issues

Was he the last original member alive?

It's hard to explain Chicago to the younger generations. They were absolutely massive in the early 70s, and yet always felt outside of the mainstream.
