I wonder how long it'll be before car radios become entirely vestigial

The Rivian R2 doesn’t have an AM or FM tuner in it. It has AM + FM (streaming) capability thanks to

I think I'd fall asleep within 5 minutes of starting an audiobook*

I have done the opposite. Audiobooks are out, podcasts are great*

I just started last year. I boycotted before because I think the term "podcast" is dumb*

It's so funny that the name comes from a shortlived an defunct technology*

For me it's the idea of multitasking. You're in the car, you listen to a podcast. Working in the
Posted by meanjeans I can't imagine someone being in a car for 2 hours and just listening to- nothing? Like a wasted opportunity to get some information. That said illini sports podcasts represent the vast majority of my consumption. If I didn't listen to those, I don't think I'd spend nearly as much time listening to podcasts

I was in the car for 5 hours yesterday and listened to "music". *

Can't agree, as I know many people who have never listened to a podcast, but...(edit)
Posted by EffinIllini Edit: Now the one thing that I do not do and can't really figure out why people would do so is watch a podcast. There are plenty that I subscribe & listen to that have video feeds...I just can't figure why someone would want to watch when they could listen and do other things.

Cosign, watching a podcast is sociopathic behavior to me*

so I assume you don't watch any videos on youtube then?

My youtube "podcasts" that I follow are either music gear reviews or fishing...for the most part...

I simply cannot focus enough for informational podcasts and/or audiobooks.

Understandable.
Posted by EffinIllini Do sometimes listen to Derek Thompson's Plain English podcast has he often has varying topics or Pablo Torre. Still, not super deep.

I find audiobooks insufferable

I listen to them when I'm doing other stuff like running or yardwork

I guess if you expand it to that then there's a few minutes
