Also the Cubs hot take is that the greatest Cub of all time is Ron Santo.

Dude just putting up 8 win seasons throughout the 60s. Mays and Aaron were like the only two players better than him that decade.

Yeah he was definitely a lot better in 2001.

Kind of amusing to see the drop off to literally 0 stolen bases in 2001 though. Reaching base 44% of the time on over 700 PA’s and not even once decided to try to steal a base.

He was on pace for about a 3.5 WAR season at a 25 HR/25 SB pace as a 23 year old and got hurt at the halfway point.

But if he doesn’t get hurt, there’s no Kenny Lofton trade. Which was also the Aramis Ramirez trade, though they certainly could have still done a different version of that move.

I don’t think they even make the playoffs without Lofton though, which probably would have been a preferable option for Steve Bartman.

I had high hopes for Corey Patterson as well. So much physical talent but never able to put it all together.

I sometimes think about an all-time team since then. I remember thinking who would be the second best 2B after Ryno..I honestly thought about Nico. Trillo only played there as a Cub for 4 years so for that purpose I think Nico is second.

he had one okay year for a playoff team. if that's the criteria, use Mitch Williams. Or even Chapman. 2016 doesn't happen without him.
