Hey deuce pilots and frequent flyers (and Taz) - I’ve been on 2 flights that did go arounds this yr

Don’t recall the last time I had to do one before. Are the rates of these increasing or is it just my bad luck?

had a go around when coming into ORD after the first big snowstorm last December

we made it. but it was dicey.

I've only ever been on one airline flight that's done a go around and that was a foggy night coming

back to CMI back in the late 90s.

A long time ago my office was in Rosemont, and overlooked final for (at the time) 27R. I'd see at least a go around a week. The best were the 747s, light on fuel but going full throttle. The deck angle and climb rate was amazing.

Personally it's been a couple years since I've had one that wasn't anticipated--the tower screwed up spacing and cleared someone for takeoff while I was less than half a mile from landing.

Had one at ATL in Feb or March and one at LGA on Friday. Both due to traffic not clearing the runway

My real excitement was a bird strike on takeoff from JFK in 2022 (I think) when we were returning from a family vacation. Huge slam and thunk. And then we circled NYC and landed back at JFK to check out the plane. Obviously we had to switch planes due to there being only one airplane.

I had a small one in 2007 that was just a wee bit of blood on the prop.

Last summer one of my partners (in a different plane) had a big one that dented the snot out of the cowl and we got a souvenir feather that lodged itself in the engine cooling fins. Thankfully that wasn't too expensive to get banged back out.

Really shouldn't book flights that land on aircraft carriers.
