Pretty sure he tweeted close to if not over 100 times last night (mostly replies to people arguing with him) and appears to be close to another 50 already this morning.

Seems to mostly stem from a passive aggressive ‘I wish the Cubs could have played the Astros’ tweet from yesterday and then being apoplectic at the insinuation that it was a dig at the White Sox victory.

He hasn’t stopped, more than 50 replies in the last 2 hours*

2027 Good, Bad and Ugly

The Good is they are pretty locked down in the field.

Bringing back the entire infield and PCA. Plus the holes I think are easy to plug. Wouldn't be surprised if 2 of or even all 3 of Kelly, Happ, and Suzuki return. Even if Kelly doesn't return Amaya and possibly Ayers are a decent start to catcher. The OF is a little iffier but Shaw might get a shot again if he's not traded for pitching.

The Bad is they are aging a bit. The entire infield is in their 30s (Busch will be 29). Still really good but at any time it can go. I expect Dansby to swing the bat a bit better next year and really need Nico to hit better. Busch perhaps maybe a bit better as well but probably more of the same. Bregman and PCA will probably take steps back. Even if they bring back Happ and Suzuki both are in their 30s as well although Suzuki made great gains in the OF.

The Ugly is that pitching staff.

As mentioned only Assad, Cabrera, and Brown will return who made starts this season. Waited all year for Justin Steele who never showed does not inspire confidence they will get Horton back at some point next year.

Brown keeps reinjuring his neck though they say they have that figured out. He broke out big time. Hopefully he keeps that up.

What do you do with Cabrera? Gotta try to figure him out. Assad could be back but I wouldn't be surprised if he's traded. Shota, Boyd, Rea, Gausman, Holmes, Peterson I assume are all gone.

There isn't really any help in the minors. Wiggins was hurt as well.

The bullpen is a bit of mess but less worried about that. Palencia and Zeferjahn seemed to pitch better at the end of the year (that homer Sheets hit was ridiculous).

I think they gotta check in on Trevor Rogers market but his health would be scary. I'd definitely be calling Tampa about Drew Rasmussen. Maybe they can get Freddy Peralta in a better spot than he was this past season.

This offseason the focus has to be pitching pitching pitching. Figure out your OF spots and bring back Kelly then barrel head first into pitching.

want to keep some of the Shota, Boyd, Rea, Gausman, Holmes, Peterson group? I'm not counting on getting anything out of Horton next year, with Steele and Brown not far behind.

Of course, the impending lockout really throws a wrench into any plans, especially for short-term prove-it type deals. Maybe some of them will take less to stay in the Friendly Confines.

Especially since they have such a dearth of reliable options to even eat innings.

But if they want to be super competitive they need to do better

They need legitimate top end talent too

as two of your three starters. They just unfortunately never got either, though it shouldn’t have been a total shock with Gausman since he was only having an ok year prior to the trade.

Holmes was the bigger disappointment.

Really screwed up their pitching plans.

They gave up Rojas for Holmes (and Taylor). They obviously thought he was gonna be a key part of this.

I'm not sure who was better that was traded outside of Skubal. I wanted Mize and he stunk and I'm not confident about signing him for next year (though I'd still go after him)

They could have made more effort for Detmers I guess but my guess is that LA really had a very high price on him.

Every offseason should be the focus

And I criticized them for not doing enough last year and relying on their staff that could crumble in an instant.

Hopefully they learned a lesson. Unfortunately this year the pickings are slimmer.

Don't take that as a criticism of you. I agreed with you last year.

Ownership has all but admitted they just want to get to the playoffs and hope for luck and a hot streak from there....so this year was mission accomplished to them.

And, whatever, I'm fine with that as a baseline for an acceptable season. Either win the division, have the best WC record, or win the opening round.

The Ricketts didn't get a single ticket sale or beer sold since the team clinched the postseason a week ago.

I imagine pitching market will be competitive again. Most need pitching and few reliable good arms*

Every season is sacred. Wasted some awesome stuff this year but just way too many obstacles to overcome with the pitching.

Really need a big offseason there.

Statistically that's probably not all that wild, especially in only two games, but it probably wouldn't have really gone up much even if they played a handful more games.

The number of pitchers on the IL this season was the most of any I could recall

The pitching was just devastated.

They were far and away the best position player group in baseball even if you took PCA away but they were one of the worst pitching staffs in baseball.

One of the worst pitching staffs to ever make the postseason. I’ve never seen such a disparity.

And the only “starters”they have under control for next year are Cabrera, Brown, and Assad.

Not counting Steele and Horton.

They need to bring back a couple outfielders and then figure out how to get a legitimate pitching staff.

Cabrera was so uniquely awful that I’m not even sure what you do with him.

I guess you probably just go in with the assumption that you can only count him to be a #4 or #5 starter and plan accordingly around that. But that was so incredibly bad from him this year where it makes you wonder if he might be permanently broken by whatever adjustments they tried to have him make this year.

I also figured they’d end up in a spot where they’d bring back one of Gausman or Holmes on a short team year deal but I don’t know about that anymore. Not a getting single or meaningful AB from Holmes or Taylor when giving up Jefferson Rojas sure didn’t work out.

I’d gladly bring Peterson back if the price is reasonable though.

Been some fun parts to this season for sure.

But not sure how any part of this team could even trust each other going into any game the past couple weeks. Offense is dead, bullpen shaky, and starters vulnerable. If you have all that going, it doesn’t really matter if your defense is good.

Kinda feels like the “too much adversity” got to them this year. Shitty bullpens make for a really frustrating season.
