So, 2 of our vehicles have this thingy that shuts off the engine most times when you stop, then re-starts it when you release the brake. You can't turn it off permanently. Fuel saving measure, and it works. Implemented to appease regulators. Now of course there is the extra cost of a more heavy duty battery and starter, and the wear and tear on both over the years... Just the battery is over $100 more than standard.

In my estimation, hundreds of $$ over the lifetime of the car.

My 2023 has a nifty computer that shows me how much gas this has saved me from burning over the lifetime of the car. Neat! In 20,000 miles, this "feature" has saved me a whopping 2.18 gallons of gas.

There is talk that this "feature" could be eliminated by the current "administration" (if you could call it that). If so, it would be another tiny glimmer of light. (Hey, I always try to look at any sign of the bright side).
