AU team discovered the herb, researched the herb in their lab, found a breakthrough, bought that land so cheap from villagers and now they are the land owner where herb is found, they sealed the land so that nobody could grab it.
Later they told Nepal government about the herb. Nepal government won't let money go outside without grabbing some royalty. AU team got hooked up with Nepal government and promised to pay them royalty(1-20 million dollars per year). Nepal government agreed and granted access to their business. AU team got hooked up with Chinese hospitals and making millions from Chinese and paying Nepali government good royalty as well.
I also think the nepal government set up a contract in such a way that no herbs could be taken to any other area except that particular land. Just my two cents.
