If we didn't (a) we would disqualify ourselves from the more fundamental task of struggling to overthrow the whole system (Marx) and (b) the working class would become so immiserated it would be incapable of fighting for anything, let alone socialism.

In 2. we have to link the struggles for immediate economic, political and social "breathing space" and for some immediate protections and improvements, with the wider need to challenge and overthrow the whole capitalist system.

Actually, the Clapham SPGB would agree with a lot of the above, although will refuse to formally ally with any other "political" movement for fear of losing their unique identity. Even the Ashbourne Court SPGB agrees with the need for workers to fight for immediate terms and conditions.

So actually the CP and SPGB(s) are not a million miles apart.
