In the struggle for class and state power we have to make full use of all opportunities including the electoral field, not because that offers a road to that power, but because it enables us to speak to people whose political awareness is heightened during elections, and to build organisation and support.
We can't "win the battle for democracy" by abandoning it.
The democracy under bourgeois rule is in essence democracy for the bourgeoisie. We need to expose that and to stand for a genuine democracy where working people themselves rule society i.e. socialism.
As part of the struggle for class and state power we have as Marx and Engels said "to win the battle for democracy". That means maximising the use of all existing democratic rights and seeking to maximise democratic rights themselves under capitalism. The argument for PR and against FPTP is part of that ideological and political battle.
Democracy under capitalism is in essence democracy for the bourgeoisie. We need to expose that fact and counter it by aiming for a genuine democracy where the majority working people rule i.e. socialism.
