I am a socialist/communist and therefore I absolutely believe that economies should be run by and in the interests of the working class and essential pre-conditions are the public ownership and the democratic control of the means of production.
I thought the SPGB also believed in "the public ownership and the democratic control of the means of production" - but they avoid any question of how it might operate by denying the very concept of a socialist economy - and assume we will transition instantly and seamlessly to a full Communism Nirvana, overflowing with milk and honey.
All the experience of the socialist countries to date does show is that while it is relatively easy to plan and direct the big industries and services, it is more complex to plan and direct the production of all the wide range of goods and services now available in modern consumer societies.
What if someone in the SPGB socialist Nirvana wanted something else other than milk and honey Stephen?
You couldn't tell anyone to produce (say) tomato juice as the SPGB doesn't believe in any form of authority or central planning. Would it worthwhile for people to start producing tomato juice? What would happen to what they were already working on? What are the opportunity costs of producing different types of drink? How would you compare their respective worths to society? Would you have referenda on how much milk, honey and tomato juice should be produced every year? Would you have referenda on how to actually make the tomato juice?
There will no sensible or constructive responses from our SPGB "I am not a member of the SPGB - I just parrot their positions" troll.
