Thank you very much for the clipping mentioning the lesser known persons present in the Royal Box. I wonder if the lady behind the president (and to the left of The Duchess of Gloucester) could be the Duchess of Beaufort (née Mary of Teck, after 1917 Lady Mary Cambridge).
During the day I started to wonder if the lady shown at Covent Garden during the French state visit was the Marchioness of Carisbrooke as I felt that perhaps she would have looked older, and so I began to wonder if the lady was Lady May Abel Smith, Princess Alice's daughter. But-- below are some photos of the Marchioness from the same era. I think she was the lady at Covent Garden wearing the Teck ears of wheat tiara.

When I checked the newspapers to see who attended, I found the Marchioness mentioned.
A photo of the group in the royal box seems to confirm this. I think the Marchioness is the person behind Alice, Duchess of Gloucester; however, her tiara is not visible, although her trademark 3 strand pearl necklace is.
