Even though I have references to Queen Alexandra wearing an emerald tiara, I agree that the most likely scenario regarding the 1909 portrait is what Mauriz said: that Marchetti based his work on Fildes' painting, substituting another tiara for the Diamond Diadem.
Luke Fildes' 1905 portrait. The Royal Collection has some interesting information about Queen Alexandra's reluctance to sit for the portrait.
