Apart from the very grand diamond belt tiara, the Buccleuchs have a "smaller" diamond tiara which is referred to as the Mayflower tiara on the Bowhill (one of the Buccleuchs' principal houses) site. ![]() According to the curators at Bowhill the Mayflower tiara was created in the 1870s and can be dismantled to form 9 brooches. http://www.bowhillhouse.co.uk/news/chance-to-see-rare-victorian-era-artefacts-at-selkirk-exhibition/ It has also been worn by a number of brides in the family. It was chosen by Duchess Jane for her wedding to the then Earl of Dalkeith in January 1953. ![]() No doubt it provided a lot of glitter on a dull January day and even more if parts of it are set en tremblant. ![]() Duchess Jane's necklace also seems to be an old Buccleuch piece. I believe it is the same as the one worn by the Duchess to the Devonshire House ball in 1897. ![]() What do others think? Another photo of Duchess Jane wearing the necklace, this time with the pearl tiara which I post some photos of tomorrow. ![]() |
