In the earlier years of her reign QEII wore the Diamond Diadem for some important banquets. I have some photos which I will upload and post later. From memory I think one time was for a meeting of Commonwealth Prime Ministers and another was for a French state visit.

That makes sense. Because it is only worn at state events when regalia is worn I have always thought of it as regalia not jewellery but it is logically to treat it like the jewels of the crown.
