My instinctive reaction is that these diamonds have nothing to do with Marie Antoinette or the Empress Josephine. Apart from anything else all the diamonds appear (to my admittedly inexpert eye) to display modern cutting techniques. According to Hugh Roberts, Mrs Greville appears to have purchased the pear shaped diamond drops through the New York branch of Cartier at some time "before 19 May 1938".

Oh yes thank you Beth, these earrings are the ones I mean. Does anyone happen to know their provenance? Are they really from the French Empress or Queen I mentioned in my previous contribution? Maybe Vincent may have a clue. For some reason, I get the feeling that such a grand and impressive pair or earrings from lady Greville may have come with a necklace of similar design, I just cant imagine such an impressive pair like these from such a grand lady being on their own. Don't be surprised if we see a royal lady dawn a new necklace with pear shaped diamonds and wonder' 'now where did they get that from'.
