1945 Cartier, London
This brooch was made by Cartier. It is a gold spray brooch with one flower of all blue sapphires and another of pink sapphires and cushion cut rubies. Both have square-cut diamonds centres and one of the three leaves is set with pave-set diamonds.
It was a birthday gift for 19 th, to the princess from her parents in 1945, together with a matching pair of earrings in the shape of miniature flowers on tiny stems.

According to Leslie Field's The Queen's Jewels, the gift also included a matching pair of earrings "in the shape of miniature flowers on tiny stems".
The princess chose to wear it in the first photo to be released of her and husband Prince Philip with their baby son Prince Charles.
