What a nice little mystery you have given us Beth. I agree with others that the brooch on the Queen Mother's shoulder during French state visit is a good candidate for the one worn on her hat.

Regarding the brooch worn by Queen Mary could this be the brooch worn by Queen Victoria in this painting by Melville.
