The use of a necklace/chain so that the butterfly hangs as a pendant reminds me of how Nellie Melba's corsage was worn originally, even though the photos we have of Melba wearing it show it sitting on the centre of the chest. If the chain had been allowed to sit around Melba's neck, the jewel would have reached to near her waist also.
