The tiara, in its first recorded form, was made by Boucheron Paris in 1901 for the Coronation of Edward VII, as a tall Diadem of Lotus leaves, which was made with Mrs Greville own stones.
It was sent back to Boucheron Paris in 1921 for a major overhaul, and the completed tiara adopted a honeycomb pattern.

After inheriting the piece, The Queen Mother had Cartier London add some diamonds on the top line in 1953. According to Hugh Roberts, some brilliants cames from a brooch that was dismantled in 1949.
