Re: Spencer Diamond Necklace and Pendant
Edited by mauriz on February 21, 2019, 6:22 pm
Apparently the Spencers had (have?) a second smaller pendant/brooch with a similar stone as not only Cynthia, Countess Spencer was wearing both pieces as pendants for the coronation in 1953 but also Charlotte, wife of the 5th Earl wore them as brooches for a portrait in the 1880's, together with elements later used for the greek key tiara attached to her bodice. The diamond collets of the necklace appear to have been assembled in their correct order on this occasion. And when she appeared at the Devonshire House Ball in 1897, she was wearing the large pendant and the honeysuckle elements attached to her hat.
