In her journal on 18 March 1863, the day of Princess Louise's 15th birthday, Queen Victoria recorded that Louise was given the four rows of pearls which had a sapphire clasp.

In my opinion, the shape of this clasp is different from the one which was on the pearls worn to the wedding of Edward and Alexandra on 10 March 1863.
Perhaps Queen Victoria deemed a neutral coloured clasp more suitable for the wedding attire.
For me the most interesting aspect of Queen Victoria's entry for 18 March 1863 was the information that Prince Albert had to buy his mother's pearls some years before. I wonder what was the story behind that?
