History of Famous Jewels and Collections: Re: Countess of Pembroke. Fate of one tiara

You'd have thought that if Beatrix Countess of Pembroke had access to the larger tiara then she would have either worn it or had it altered to her taste etc to wear to the coronation. After all that is the biggest gun event of all time.

This tiara has risen without a trace and disappeared without one!

I wonder if it was a piece bought from one of the Russian families or soviet sales? It certainly has a kokoshnik feel to it. The timing also fits.

In 1916 the Dowager Countess of Pembroke (Beatrix Louisa) donated a tiara to the Red Cross auction.

I think that this is the tiara she was photographed wearing at the 1902 Coronation. Initially, I thought there were two different tiaras but, when I took into account the angle of the coronation photo, I came to the conclusion that it is the same tiara. What do others think? I know I could be very wrong.

For the Dowager Countess to be able to donate this tiara, it had to be a personally owned item, not an entailed family jewel.
