What interests me in the ad is the reference to QEQM, then Duchess of York. Could it be possible that some of the long strings of pearls she wore during the 1930s were cultured pearls? I suspect we have no way of proving that, but I doubt if, during that era, a firm seeking to enhance its reputation would fabricate a claim. The ad appeared in the Tatler, November 1936.
