In my post this morning, I noted that the ruby tiara and necklace sold by Sir Godfrey Baring in 1928 were said to contain stones belonging to Marie Antoinette. I assumed that the allusion was to rubies, but none of the reports I read actually said "rubies" -- as opposed to "diamonds", but I assumed the reference would have meant rubies.
In my searches I came across several references to rubies owned by Marie Antoinette. Over the next few days I will try to post about some of these.
The first that I would like to discuss is the theft of a ruby necklace from a jewellery store in New York in 1935.
What interests me most about these reports is the reference to the fact that there were statements saying that there was a certification from the French government that the rubies had belonged to Marie Antoinette.
And
If anyone knows about rubies worn by Marie Antoinette and later worn by others, I would be interested to know more.
If I get time tomorrow (or hopefully in the next few days) I will post on other things I have noticed in UK newspapers.
In the meantime, I be interested to hear anything others know about rubies belonging to Marie Antoinette.
