In 1902, having hit hard times, Christies held an auction of the Dudley jewels including the spectacular emerald Dudley necklace, which through reading between the lines, most likely were once part of the jewels of Queen Isabella II of Spain as they formed part of the Spanish crown jewels until near the end of the 19th century which fits with the legendary sale of her jewels.
The necklace was still in existence as at 1949 when it was displayed by Harry Winston, however the mystery surrounding its owner is worthy of a novel!
If only we could get a hold of the Harry Winston pamphlet of 1949 to see the full glory of what was in display, however at this link, (you can't post pictures directly it seems, or at least I can't but maybe some more computer savvy people can?) you can see a picture of the legendary Dudley emerald necklace as displayed in 1949.
