I first came to read about Princess Marthe Bibesco in Hannah Pakula's superb biography of Queen Marie of Romania.

She seemed an unlikable character but she had a fabulous collection of emeralds and was quite inventive in how she wore them - imagine wearing a tiara on your shoulder!

The emeralds were reset in a tiara by Cartier and sold in the 1970s.

I have often thoughts these would have gone well with the Greek emerald parure.
