Hancocks clearly want to drum up press attention to inspire potential purchasers, so I would have thought more information will be produced to whet the appetite.
I am intrigued by this tiara as, if it belonged to the 5th Marquess, then I suspect that the jewel was entailed and so beyond the reach of his creditors. Otherwise, it seems strange that it was not among the items sold after his bankruptcy.
The question I would like answered is who purchased it initially? If it was made in 1890, then possibly the first owner may have been the 4th Marquess, as the 5th did not inherit until later.
So many questions. So little information.
