Marquess of Anglesey Tiara on sale Posted by The Royal Watcher on January 24, 2020, 2:22 am The Tiara of the Marquesses of Anglesey was purchased by Hancocks in London in November and will now be offered for sale at the TEFAF Maastricht antiques fair in March. The Tiara was worn by the Marchionesses at the 1924 State Opening of Parliament, and the 1937 and 1953 Coronations! What a surprise treat Posted by Janet on January 25, 2020, 12:47 am, in reply to "Marquess of Anglesey Tiara on sale" It is fascinating and exciting whenever jewels, especially one as beautiful as this and assumed lost (and broken up ) suddenly re-appear from nowhere, presumably after sitting in a bank vault for decades! Fills me with such hope and excitement for the new discoveries to come!

Otherwise, it seems strange that it was not among the items sold after his bankruptcy. The question I would like answered is who purchased it initially? If it was made in 1890, then possibly the first owner may have been the 4th Marquess, as the 5th did not inherit until later. So many questions. So little information.

It is entirely possible I suppose the tiara was sold by the Paget family many years ago privately. Hancocks clearly want to drum up press attention to inspire potential purchasers, so I would have thought more information will be produced to whet the appetite.
