According to a number of reports, although the Grand Duchess had planned to attend the wedding, she was unable to do so as she had some sort of operation.

Despite the above reports, the
Daily Telegraph 9 February 1901 reported that the Grand Duchess was present.
I suspect that this report was pre-prepared and published without checking all the facts.
