And when The Connaught Tiara is shown you can se the "link" used for wearing it as a necklace, guess we will se it more clearly next episode
Here are some facts stated regarding ownership etc.
The Cameo’s
Made by Nitot and was a gift from Napoleon to empress Josefine 1809. 1814 her son Eugène inherit the Cameos, but it’s unclear how Josefina got them, first portrait of her wearing them is 22 years later 1836.
The Cameos are signed.
They talk about how fragile the tiara is and the queen says she have stopped bringing it abroad because of that.
The Leuchtenberg Safire’s
Was a gift from empress Josefine to her stepdaughter Augusta of Leuchtenberg when her first son was born
August was born 9 December 1810 and the letter from Augusta to her brother is dated 23February 1811.
Josefina of Sweden received the Safire’s as a wedding gift 1823.
The Steel set
When Hortense dies 1837 her goddaughter Eugenie inherit the complete set of steel jewels. And when she dies her sister Empress Amelie inherit them and 1873 they goes to Josefina of Sweden.
Wonderful! Wonderful! -- even though I cannot understand Swedish! If I could watch it in Australia, I hope others in different parts of the world can also.
Now could I impose on those who understand Swedish to tell us all the interesting facts, please?
I was fascinated by the information in English that the sapphires had originally been given to Augusta, the wife of Napoleon's step-son in 1811. What excitement the historian must have felt when she found the letter!
One of the things which caught my attention was how the Braganza tiara moves. In a previous program Queen Silvia mentioned that. Seeing how it does move was very interesting.
Thank you Benny for the link!
