For the State Visit to Germany in February 1909 Queen Alexandra wore some of the most spectacular jewels available to her.
At the time, the gala held at the Opera House was the function most visible to the public, and some of the British media provided readers with sketches of the occasion.
Although the press reports did not mention the Diamond Diadem by name, the sketches show that Queen Alexandra wore it.
The last sketch above suggests that HM wore rows of diamonds as a choker with her large diamond necklace beneath. As her gown was reported to shimmer, every movement would have caught the light.
