On the other hand, if the tiara is still with the Duchess, I strongly suspect that the tabloid media would have a field day in making comparisons between the marriage of the Duchess and those of her daughters, if one of them wore it on their wedding day. How distracting that would be for the bride, not to mention the possibility of spoiling their special day!
I, for one, am very glad that The Queen lent both of her granddaughters tiaras from her collection to avoid such a scenario. The brides could enjoy their day without undue comment, and bask in the interpretation that they enjoyed Her Majesty's favour by the loan of special tiaras from HM's collection. A wonderful PR coup!
