I wonder if this is an old piece or a new piece? All the metal work looks as if it is heavily tarnished; yet, I have not got the feeling that the silk thread for the pearls is old, so I suspect that, if the sautoir is an old piece, it has been restrung.

If the pearls were restrung, surely the metal work would have been cleaned. That is why I wonder if this is not a modern piece where the metal has been deliberately oxidised.

What do others think?

Has anyone worked out what stones are in the elements separating the pearls?
