Before what we now refer to as the Ogilvy tiara was constructed, Princess Alexandra wore a tiara formed of the floral elements arranged on a band.
Most commentators refer to the tiara as having 5 flowers. I believe that there were 7 elements.
So far the images I have found of Princess Alexandra wearing this tiara are from her trip to Nigeria in 1960 when she represented the Queen at the Independence ceremonies. The tour lasted 3 weeks and so Princess Alexandra wore 3 tiaras: the Kent festoon tiara, the Queen Mary/Kent bandeau and Princess Alexandra's own tiara with the 7 floral elements.
None of the photos I have found show the details of the tiara clearly; nevertheless, I strongly suspect that the floral elements had the turquoise centres, not pearl centres.
Princess Alexandra wore the tiara on at least 2 separate occasions in Nigeria in 1960.
I would be interested in hearing what others think about this tiara.
I think that this image shows the turquoise earrings.

I suspect that the original elements contained turquoises and that the pearls seen in the Ogilvy tiara were, like the sapphires, a later addition.
